Matt Everett
Rabbit

Rabbit, rabbit, now I am very excited about candy. Now I am growing into what I was before the rains came. Before bunnies appeared on the lawn. They taught the girls to make up words. They taught the boys to break like stones.

Rabbit, I don't miss the time in-between, the time when you escaped from me into the earth. Your warren extends from Bremen to Berlin, and I won't try to miss you anymore. I've lost track of all the things you mean. You are mean.

Matt Everett is from Providence, RI, where he was in a lot of bands and wrote music for films and dances and stuff. He came to NY in 2006 to do the MFA in Fiction at the New School. His fiction and poetry have appeared in The Café Irreal and Barrow Street. He’s “shopping” a novel, works as a church secretary, leads writing workshops through the NY Writers Coalition (you can too), and performs sporadically with his band Cloud Chamber.
